How can I send bulk email, and NOT have people complain that I am spamming them?

It's easy! Here's how, in 3 easy steps!

Step 1. get the email addresses:
Set up a form on your web site where a user can submit their email address. Explain to them that they are subscribing to your list, and they can unsubscribe at any time. When they submit the form, write the record to your database, but leave the "confirmed" field to "N". Send an email to that address they just submitted with a URL that they can click to confirm their intentions to be on your list. When they click the link, change the "N" to a "Y". If they do not confirm, do NOT send them email. This prevents people from subscribing their enemies to your list.

Step 2. Compose the email:
If you want people to stay subscribed to your list, you will need to have some content in the email that is of interest of the user. For example, if I subscribe to a mailing list of a scuba diving web site, I don't want to get advertisements for viagra. But, I would like to read about dive destinations, equipment reviews, etc... If you sell these things on your web site, you will increase sales by sending this type of email. Be sure to preface the email with: "You are receiveing this email because you subscribed on xx/xx/20xx, click here to unsubscribe".

Step 3. Send the email:
If you are sending less than 1000 emails per day, you can use your web account at MaximumASP to send the emails right from the web server click here for aspemail sample code.
If you need to send more than 1000 per day, you will need to use your own mail server, read this for more information.
Be sure to honor your unsubscribe requests, in fact, this should be an automatic process for them to unsubscribe.
